Sex sells…environmentalism…

I am ecstatic that so many companies are offering “green” options, and I hope that it is not just a trend. However, this just made me roll my eyes.

I was on Mandee.com and saw a link for “eco-friendly.” I was really impressed, thinking “wow they offer a line of organic shirts?” No. There was one organic shirt and bunch of lame slogan-ed items.

1. Hug me, not a tree (um, that isn’t “green”…)

2. Conserve water, shower with a friend

3. Save energy, turn me on (Did they consult the makers of Axe for 2 and 3?)

4. I recycle boys

5. Solar power is hot (har har har)

6. Save water, get dirty (this shirt was very poorly designed, as the droplets are right below where nipples would be)

7. Green is the new black

8. Green is sexy

Why does green have to be sexy; can’t it just be smart? Does something have to refer to sex, boys, or fashion to be profitable or cool? I guess sex can even sell environmentalism.
